Level up your outfit and rush toward your goals with the latest nostalgic sneaker collaboration from PUMA. Beginning December 4, the PUMA x Nintendo Future Rider “Super Mario Bros.” shoes will get you outfitted for the journey. Both grade school boys and men can power their looks with these collectible, retro-inspired sneakers.
The PUMA Future Riders NES hearkens back to simpler times when you — or your dad — were busy defeating Goombas, and Mario was one of the few standout games on the original Nintendo NES. With its exceedingly simple design featuring “Power” and “Reset” buttons on the front, the grey 1985 console was ahead of its time in terms of gaming technology. Even today, in a time of increasingly technical video games, Super Mario Bros. still reigns supreme, thanks to the lovable Luigi, mustachioed Mario and the always-elegant Princess Peach.
The PUMA Future Rider sneakers are a delightful homage to the Nintendo console that started it all. Shades of light grey suede are stitched atop the darker grey mesh backdrop of the PUMA shoe. The PUMA Formstrip arches along the shoe’s sides, emulating the black controller plug-in strip on the Nintendo console. Red outlines the top of the midsole, meeting the 3D TPU “power button” on the shoe’s side, while red tabs introduce more color.
The sneaker’s nylon tongue tag shows off a Mario Bros.-themed graphic that mimics the original NES packaging and contrasts against the white tongue. Inside the shoe, a red and black insole takes on the pixelated look of Super Mario building blocks. The sneaker tag is the handheld controller to the shoe’s Nintendo console.
Graphic details aside, the IMEVA midsole gives the shoe lightweight cushioning, and a studded black rubber outsole allows for ground-gripping gameplay.
