The Iconic adidas Samba

How the Samba Went From Soccer to Streets
Many think the Samba was originally designed for the World Cup, but they’re wrong. Instead, adidas released the shoe as a solution for icy pitches in Germany in 1950. The football team needed something that could give them traction when things got slippery, and the Samba delivered.
Fast forward to 1972, and the Samba got a major update. adidas launched the 3-zone profile outsole for an even better multidirectional grip. Then in 1982, the Samba Spezial added in a shock-absorbent polyurethane wedge and multi-stud outsole.
Since then, the Samba has transitioned into streetwear, and we’ve seen many drops over the years. In 2014, adidas launched the SAMBA Super Battle Pack to commemorate the World Cup in Brazil. There have also been many collabs with famous designers, including the red Samba designed by Grace Wales Bonner.
One of the most popular colorways is the adidas Samba in black with white stripes. Its simple design goes great with jeans and sweats alike. Sambas in white with colored stripes are another neutral option for everyday wear.
